How Nuovo Pasta Productions, Ltd, is Helping Fight Food Insecurity
The Mission of Meals on Main Street (MOMS), headquartered in Port Chester, NY, is simple – to eliminate food insecurity wherever it is found and provide access for all in need. The focus is on food, the most fundamental of human needs, and they do this by getting food to people where they work and live. Helping people have quality food for themselves and their families with dignity and respect lets them know that they are valued and provides not only physical nourishment but also hope.
MOMS accomplishes their goal by delivering fresh foods to different neighborhoods using late-model attractive mobile food trucks that welcome guests to select their own items, similar to a farmer’s market. MOMS also delivers meals that are prepared by MOMS cooks and volunteers in their own dedicated commercial kitchen. MOMS supplies other food pantries free of charge with their homemade or recovered meals in both Westchester County, NY and South Norwalk, CT.
MOMS has been serving the community for over 13 years, with 2023 being its busiest year to date. In 2023, MOMS provided over 783,000 meals and served 308,000 people.
Many people believe that food insecurity occurs only in poor neighborhoods, but hunger can be found everywhere, even on main streets. The goal of MOMS is to search out hunger without assumptions, understanding that people don’t always ask for help when they are hungry due to being embarrassed or ashamed.
MOMS has staff and community volunteers and an extensive food recovery network that partners with local businesses, supermarkets, restaurants, caterers, and food manufacturers to save food and farm-fresh produce that would otherwise go to waste.
